   The plant was introduced by the Arabs in Valencia, Spain, and were grown by the Paiute in Owens Valley, some say due to the prohibition of wine consumption in the Muslim region, since soft drinks like the 13th century “Ilet De Xufes” of the Valencia community and horchata were popular . . . and are still.

    The most popular of these is Chufa’s milk blended with dates and honey, which drink in is called kunun aya, and has been used for centuries there to improve fertility, increase libido and sexual energy and fight erectile dysfunction. Also popular is the combination of chufa, dates and coconut, and other spices such as ginger, jaggery and dandelion are often added. Chufa is a non-inflammatory flour, gluten free, paleo perfect snack that fills you up and recharges you, while being safe for people with nut allergies, since unlike the sound of its name it is not actually a nut.

Chufa for your Heart . . . and More

For the heart, this tuber controls the blood pressure with its amino acid arginine, which helps conditions that are worsened by restricted blood vessels, blocked arteries and swollen blood vessels like for example headaches, chest pain, erectile dysfunction, heart disease or faire and artery disease and muscle cramps. Arginine is a nitric oxide precursor, great at maintaining the width of blood vessels that ensure normal blood flow.

   Some Chinese authors recommended it as an appetite stimulant and for general wellness. With its provision of potassium, this tuber also controls heart activity, while its magnesium helps regulate the heartbeat, maintain the normal blood pressure levels that were attained with the arginine and prevent heart attacks, thrombosis whilst activating blood circulation.
